Not for broadcast age rating8/31/2023 ![]() Right now, viewers in the UK know that if they switch on their TV, there will be a high standard of rules in place to protect audiences, including the 9pm watershed and certain content standards. First and foremost, we need a level playing field between traditional broadcasters and online streaming services. In order to do that, we need to ensure our broadcasting regulation is fit for the 21st Century. But as viewing habits continue to change, we want to ensure our broadcasters continue to thrive in the new media landscape, so that they remain the driving force of our creative industries, fuel wider economic growth, and build on our international competitiveness. In this golden age for television, UK productions are renowned and respected around the world, with programmes such as I May Destroy You and It’s A Sin attracting global plaudits and audiences. Viewers have never had such a breadth of choice, with our world-class public service and commercial broadcasters sitting alongside a wide range of online streaming services, such as Netflix to Disney+ to Amazon Prime. Some examples of this include two episodes of the program MTV Live which were rated "PG" and revolved around sexual topics and were both aired during the daytime, in which the CBSC forced MTV to change the rating to "14+" for future broadcasts and air it after 9:00 p.m.I am immensely proud of the UK’s diverse broadcasting ecology. The CBSC (Canadian Broadcast Standards Council) enforces these content ratings on television networks, and is able to take action if a complaint is made claiming an incorrect rating for a television broadcast.Canadian French-language broadcasters refer to the Régie du cinéma age rating system. This rating system is used for Canadian English-language and third-language broadcasters. Programming with this rating cannot air before the watershed (9:00 p.m. May contain explicit violence, graphic language, and explicit portrayals of sexual activity. Programming intended for viewers ages 18 and older. 18+: Similar to the 18A and R ratings.Parents are strongly cautioned to exercise discretion in permitting viewing by pre-teens and early teens without parent/guardian supervision. Might contain nudity and depictions of sexual activity as long as they are within the context of a story. May contain intense violence and strong/frequent profanity. ![]() Programming intended for viewers ages 14 and older. Some content may not be suitable for children under the age of 8 and parental supervision is recommended for children aged 8–13. May contain brief nudity and sexual references if important to the context of the story. Moderate violence and infrequent/mild profanity is allowed. Intended for general audiences, but may not be suitable for children under the age of 8. Unlike C rated programs, G-rated programs are not necessarily aimed at children. No profanity is allowed, but offensive slang is permitted. Programming suitable for the entire family with minimal and infrequent violence. No profanity is allowed, but occasional "socially offensive and discriminatory" language is allowed if in the context of the story. Infrequent/mild violence and fantasy horror is allowed. Might contain occasional comedic, unrealistic depictions of violence. No offensive language or sexual content of any level allowed. ![]()
